Duraseal Stains — Wide Color Range
At Amazing Hardwood Floors we use Duraseal stains, which offer a wide variety of color finishes, apply evenly, and provide protection against moisture and wear. Our stain gallery shows over 30 colors applied to red oak — this gives you an idea of color options, but stain always applies differently on all wood species, so we do a test area in your home before finishing.

Recoat — Preventative Maintenance
Not every floor needs a full sanding. For floors that are in fairly good shape but have lost their sheen, a screen and recoat removes surface wear and adds a fresh top coat of finish — no aggressive sanding, no loss of wood. Many homeowners recoat every few years to extend the life of their floors and avoid a full refinish down the road.

Sanding & Refinishing — pros & cons
An honest look at what to expect, so you can choose the right floor for your home.
Pros
- Timeless, durable and elegant — it adds warmth, character and real resale value to any space.
- Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished many times, lasting for generations.
- A huge range of species, stains and plank widths lets you match any style.
- Easy to keep clean and doesn't trap dust, dander or allergens like carpet.
Cons
- Wood is a natural product — grain, tone and color variation are normal and perfect matches aren't guaranteed.
- Can scratch or dent from heavy furniture, pets or dropped items.
- Sensitive to moisture — not ideal for bathrooms or below-grade basements.
- Gaps or squeaks can occur with subfloor conditions or seasonal humidity changes (60–80°F, 35–55% RH keeps it stable).
Customer preparation checklist
- 1Remove small furniture, décor, electronics and breakables from the rooms.
- 2Take down curtains and clear closet floors in affected areas.
- 3Arrange to move large furniture — ask us in advance if you'd like our team to help.
- 4Plan for pets and children to stay out of the work area during installation.
- 5Keep a clear path from the driveway to the rooms for material delivery.
- 6Let the new flooring acclimate in your home for the time we recommend before install.
Care & maintenance guide
- Vacuum or sweep frequently to remove grit that can scratch the finish.
- Clean with a well-wrung LOBA spray mop, working with the grain — never soak the floor.
- Wipe up spills promptly; avoid wax, vinegar-only cleaners and oil soaps.
- Use felt pads under furniture and rugs at entryways.
- Keep indoor humidity between 35–55% to minimize gapping and cupping.
- Screen & recoat every ~4 years to protect the finish and delay a full refinish.
