There is nothing like the beauty of a hardwood floor. It provides character and charm to any room and never goes out of style. Besides the enjoyment and beauty of hardwood there are also many other benefits such as the ease of cleaning, durability, hypoallergenic, and the long-term value it adds to your home. Hardwood floors are very easy to clean, with a little sweeping and a light run over with a damp mop and you are ready to go. It is much easier to wipe up a wine spill on hardwood than it is carpet. With the help of durable finishes hardwood is easy to repair or refinish.

Solid wood floors can also last for a hundred years or more if taken care of properly. Hardwood is also great for people with allergies as it does not give pollen, animal dander, mold, etc any place to hide or cultivate. If you are looking to sell or might be thinking about it down the road hardwood will always add value to your home. The best part is, if you are not thinking about selling when the time come that it does cross your mind your floors will still look as beautiful as they did when you had them installed.

Wood flooring cuts

There are three different types of wood cuts: Plain sawn also known as Flat sawn, Quarter sawn, and Rift sawn. Each cut creates a board that has a different appearance and quality. The angle at which a board is cut from a log determines the type of wood cut.
The plain-sawn is the most common cut. The log is squared and then sawed lengthwise making multiple parallel cuts. This cut creates a diverse grain appearance.
A rift-sawn cut is created by cutting a log lengthwise into quarters, then creating a series of parallel cuts, with the middle cut being perpendicular to the tree’s rings. Rift boards demonstrate less form and most often have growth rings at a 30-60 degree angle to the face of the board.
When creating a quarter-sawn cut, the log is first cut into quarters. Then a series of parallel cuts are made perpendicular to the tree’s rings, cutting along the radius. These boards generally have growth rings at a 60-90 degree angle to the face of the board. This gives a more uniform grain appearance with ray flecks.
